Recently, Walt Disney World opened their new “Interactive Queue” area for the Haunted Mansion attraction. This new area is a glimpse into the future of Disney’s roadmap on how to improve their parks and rides for guest waiting in their queue areas. For anyone that runs a popular attraction, line lengths and wait times are always a problem and Disney isn’t any different. Based on customer-satisfactions surveys, line problems “falls either at the top or very near the top” of issues cited by guest according to VP of Research for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Lori Georganna.

The steps that Disney and other theme park operators are doing to help improve customer satisfaction in relation to queue areas is something that haunted attraction owners should start considering. While not everyone can do the advanced technology that the theme parks employ, it will hopefully get the creative juices flowing on what haunted attraction owners and operators can do to help improve their own queue line areas. If you have some ideas, be sure to post them below and share them with the rest of the community.

The Haunted Mansion queue also provides an early window into the kind of work now under way as part of Disney’s “Next Generation Experience” project, a broad initiative aimed at using new technologies to make its increasingly busy theme parks easier and more enjoyable to navigate.

Disney has budgeted $1 billion for the project — enough to build a half-dozen or more marquee rides — which is being driven in part to make sure that swelling crowds don’t ultimately choke the parks, spoiling visitors’ vacations and deterring repeat visits.
